Hort 231 - Assignment 3 (100 points)
DUE: Tuesday, September 29, 2009

Below are terms that are used in Dirr's Manual of Woody Landscape Plants. They describe specific features that may be used in plant identification to differentiate between plants.
  • Read and understand the definition of each term.
  • Make a collection from real plants that clearly demonstrates the required number of terms from each column.
  • Glue, tape, laminate, or otherwise secure each specimen on paper.  Make these into a booklet with a cover.
  • Label each sample with the term or terms that it illustrates.  Next to each term you illustrate, write: (1) the term's column heading (e.g. "Shape," "Leaf apex," etc.) and (2) its meaning.
You may collect separate samples to illustrate each term or you may use one sample to illustrate more than one term. Bonus points (2) will be assigned for those that use the fewest samples to correctly illustrate all terms.
